Now the passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation is not the only way to confirm your identity. Since 2026, the legal documents for registration have become:
- A driver's license is a full—fledged document for settlement (the norm came into force in January 2026). A
- foreign passport is now officially allowed for registration of citizens of the Russian Federation (previously it was allowed only for permanent residence abroad).
- Digital passport (Public Services) — identification via a QR code in a mobile application (from April 1, 2026).
- Biometrics - check—in "by person" through a Single Biometric System (EBS) in hotels that have installed special equipment.
- The digital ID in the MAX messenger is a new way of fast verification without paper questionnaires.
Important:Although the law allows check-in based on rights or biometrics, hotels have the right to require a paper passport if they do not yet have technical systems configured to integrate with the databases of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
